Over 80% of patients in both treatment groups were enrolled with a CHADS2 score of 3 or lower out of a possible score of 6. The two most common risk factors in the study based on the CHADS2 criteria were history of hypertension and age ≥ 75 years. Paroxysmal AF, defined as an intermittent form of atrial fibrillation that is characterized by a sudden onset and abrupt cessation of this rhythm, was the most common presenting rhythm of subjects in both groups.
